UUUUUU is Scotland's Derek McArthur. The Astral Travels is a sprawling 75 minute album of lucid guitar drones, flowing through the cosmos at slow-motion-lightspeed. Pretty melodies develop over top of the patient compositions and unfold in a most comfortable fashion.
Artist copy available of this 2010 Sacred Phrases release:
"Scattered notes, fragmented, circulate around this auditory eddy. Amidst the sooty turbid sounds, a repetitive astral lariat presents itself, at first close and then far off, pulling itself in towards the listeners and then drifting away again. ltd. 100, art by adam."
Artist copies are available of this 2010 Kendra Steiner Editions mini cd-r featuring one long and one short jam of mystical bedroom shaman bass bowing and signature chanting. Two tracks named after my future children, Lyndon & Bonnie.
Electroluminescent is Hamilton Ontario's Ryan Ferguson. He has been refining his sound and moustache longer than I have been alive . A huge collection of synths/pedals and records coming out of his wazoo plus some very special beer (thanked in the liners) and some isolation via the family cottage creates the perfect environment for these towering synthedelic tracks to unfold. Packed in handmade oversized cd/minivinyl sleeves, filled with lotsa goodies. Artwork by Tom Patterson.
Artist copy available of this 2011 Dream Root Recordings cassette:
If you've been keeping up with the eastern Canadian drone scene in the last year or so, you'll have heard of Misner Space, and you'll be as thrilled as I am for this one. This tape is really an exercise in subtlety, and should be listened to as such. Feedback and synth drones fade in and out of each other creating a tapestry of molecular audio pleasure. Yes really.
This is a one-of-a-kind-hand-coverted-children's religion book. Over twenty pages of pscychodelic cut'n'paste and weird images juxaposted together in comic fashion. Comes with a cd of a full Coventry Music jam of which will be featured on Sacred Phrases in a slightly modified/refined form soonish or later. It's pretty thick'n'heavy and kind of falling apart.
A 21 minute long set recorded in April 2010 live at the Casbah Lounge featuring the full Misner Space vocal daydream orchestra of Annie, Sarah, Sean & Scott. The intensity builds intently and folds in on itself like a giant imploding marble labyrinth. It finishes spectacularly with the girls providing some of the most hair-raising freaky vampire bat vocals I've ever heard. Highly recommended. Incredible artwork by Caitlin Eady.
Boatmeal reality charts the course of an underwater calypso journey. Each side contains a 20+ minute piece, tracing an unknown path as it dissolves behind you. Real-times dubs on chrome tapes do some degree of justice to the incredibly dynamic stereo recordings.
This tiny fragile disc contains an unnaturally formidable strength: Ohio's Brandon Greter stirs up some radioactive space-dust. Track one is an intense 11-minute whirlwindinhale and Track two is a sweet'n'tender comedown. Packaged in handmade colourful re-cycled hard cover books. They're neat!
This tape contains two live sets from the Hamilton, Ontario legends. Gasoline is made up of two incredibly giving and sensitive dudes that I am proud to call my friends. Both sets are comprised of a single piece of music, a trademarked series of vignettes flowing together in timelessendlessness. Side one was recorded at the Casbah Lounge and Side two in my kitchen.
Travel. A book by Matthew Junkin. A 56 page collection of illustrations and cut+paste in a hand-bound leatherette book made in Italy, comes with a one-of-a-kind cd-r with music available only with this book!
Sequin Kit is Tor Tiz & Bren Orange. This is their first tape. In 8 minutes it's exciting+endearing, challenging/catchy, refined>comfortable, jangly+6 billion other adjectives. Listen to the sample and you'll be taken by it's charm in a minute and half. Recorded by Josh St. Denis. Limited first run of 12 has ironed-on embroidery patterns on vintage paper, combined in ye olde used cases. It's like buying an aged wine.
"smokestacks" is a double cassette release of sean gadoury and scott johnson from cloud valley packaged in recycled cigarette boxes. i've got a couple artist copies left for sale. here's the cv write-up:
tape 1: Sean Gadoury bringing you some sequenced nightmoves via 2008, vintage sounds lulling forth, gentle tones circle the sky and bond together to mourn a planet that once was, the universe still rules and has a place for us all-maybe even u and me billion.
tape 2: Scott Johnson dusting off moms yamaha keyboard, organ holding patterns squeezed into the cloud zone via 2010, warbled dreams translated through theta waves bringing you closer to vega where neon lucidity spills from the cosmic soupbowl.
"Floating Island Punches" Volume II is 54 minutes of music on a clear 60 minute cassette that i bought in a quantity of ten at some indian store that also sells flipflops and luggage. all were dubbed in real-time from the digital master and the art for each tape is a different image from national geographic's hawaii special. Volume II is a continuation of a recording that will be coming out on cloud valley sometime in the future. it's long... synth and voxal drones with some feedback and filtery sounding nonsense...sure to be a hit at parties.
Two spacetastic jams featuring the same lineup and in the same spirit as the earlier private collection Misner Space release. Side one is scary prom-night blues mixed with toxic olive juice. Side two is sunlight-basked glory surrounded by shifting solar shaft shadows and distant cobble stone walkways, all hermetically sealed by condensed celluloid. Each tape is dubbed in real time on chrome+ direct from the digital master. Art by Drew Taylor printed on quality cardstock features vague credits.
misner space is a 2009 collab between hamiltonia's sarah good, scott johnson, and sean gadoury. a triple threat vocal drone daymare, incessant oohs and ahhs filled in by crumbling feedback and cavernous reverb. this cdr is 4 tracks in 52 minutes of reverent/irreverent, glowing, shifting and a little melting away. handmade cases feature art by drew taylor.
dr. johnson and dr. gadoury reunite their practice to further reduce perspective and demagnetize awkward feelings. side one features electric trashcan mayhem percussion and prominent anvil cymbatar. side 2 is quieter with dr. johnson's controlled console boutique popcorn backing a more conventional melodic structure. dubbed in real-time on chrome+ red tapes with packing of the highest quality featuring art by hamiltonist dr. drew taylor.
three-thousand billion and counting, the private collection has arrived. dr. sean gadoury splits open seashells unveiling magical breathmint winds of dirgy drone daydream. calming shores unravel multiple arms of embrace opening the windows of universal melodyssey odyssey. four tracks of flowing timelessness in under 20 minutes, our kind of time. fuzztone ambient riverstreams of the kindest vibes aimed at your soul-r-plexus. three-inch minidisc packed beautifully with recycled hardcase bookcovers by sean, the new ruling style.
